We are the Balfour & Houldsworth Golf Challenge Cup Committee and our purpose is to encourage and promote amateur golf in the Manchester area.
Originally the radius was set to 20 miles of Manchester Town Hall by our founders the Hon A.J. Balfour and Sir William Henry Houldsworth in 1897. This was later extended to golf clubs within the 25-mile radius of the Manchester Town Hall. The exceptions being the Houldsworth Cup, which now admits golfers from clubs withing a 50 miles radius and the GS Lancashire for which there is no such limit.
We organise four top-class competitions for amateur golfers each year.
We don't have a home course but select the venues from invitations kindly received from local golf clubs.
Our AGM is now held in the spring of each year, at which we confirm venues for the coming years.
Our Committee are all volunteers from various local golf clubs. If your club is interested in hosting one of our events, with our full complimentary event team in attendance to run the competition, please email our secretary, David Haley, secretary@balfourandhouldsworth.co.uk
