2026 Balfour & Houldsworth Competitions are Filling Up
The 2026 Balfour & Houldsworth Competitions are all available online
as we celebrate the 129th Anniversary.
These are golfing events, where the winners' names become part of golfing history
on the Honours Boards and the prize vouchers on offer are not to be sneezed at.
The Houldsworth Cup will be played at Crompton and Royton GC
on Sunday 10th May 2026
The 2026 Houldsworth Cup will be held, for the first time, at Crompton and Royton Golf Club on Sunday May 10th. The Tee-sheet is now open for entries. It is a Pairs Better Ball Stableford Competition for men.
The Houldsworth Cup was presented to the Golf Clubs of Manchester in 1897 by Sir William Houldsworth, a Manchester MP at the time. It has been played for every year since then, apart from the War Years.
There are 2 new Rule Changes which will come into effect from 2026. The two players who make up a pair, will no longer need to be members of the same club and their club locations can now be within 50 miles of Manchester Town Hall, rather than 25 miles as it was previously.
In 2025 the prizes were valued at over £1,000 and we expect the prizes to be something similar this year. The Report and Results of the 2025 Houldsworth Cup.

The Balfour Cup will be played at Stand GC on Sunday 14th June 2026
Stand Golf Club first hosted the Balfour Cup in 1927 and this will be the seventh time in its 129 year history.
The Balfour Cup was presented to the Golfers of Manchester in 1897 by Lord Arthur Balfour, a Manchester MP at the time, who went on to become Prime Minister 1902 to 1905. It has been played for every year since then, apart from the War Years.
The Balfour Cup is a men's medal competition and there is an upper limit of 14 on the shots available. Player must be members of a golf club located within 25 miles of Manchester Town Hall.
As well as prizes for the best 5 nett scores there is also a prize for the best Gross Score. Details of the prizes and players at Bramall Park 2025 Balfour Cup can be seen here.

The GS Lancashire Cup will be played at
Chorlton GC on Sunday 19th July 2026
Chorlton Golf Club has hosted the GS Lancashire 8 times during the past 106 years, the first one being in 1929, when the man himself - George S Lancashire, may well have been playing in the competition! The names of the Winners since 1921 are on the Honours Board.
The GS Lancs is now a Mixed 4 Player Stableford Team Event - 2 Ladies and 2 Gents, with the best lady's score and the best gent's score to count on each hole. There is no restriction on the club locations of the players who make up the mixed fourball.

The 2026 JD Farmer Seniors Balfour will be played
at Withington GC on Tues. 18th August
The JD Farmer Seniors Balfour is a relatively new competition compared with the Balfour & Houldsworth Cups and their 129 year history.
This year will be just the 21st anniversary of the Seniors, which has become one of the most popular events.
Withington Golf Club will be hosting the 2026 Seniors for the first time. The Seniors is a Better Ball Stableford competition for men aged 55 and over. In 2025 a total of £1,300 in prize vouchers was shared among pairs returning the best 6 scores.
The winner will also have their names and the names of their home clubs posted on the Seniors Honours Board.
